YKC Roadster

Nutts Performance Classics have the pleasure in offering this very rare YKC Roadster (previously Marlin) Sierra based kit car. The build was completed July 1995 using a 1983 Sierra donor car with a 1.8 Pinto engine and 5 speed transmission. Since 1995 the car has had just 4 owners, 2 of which are from the same family. The total genuine mileage is just 8774.

Brief History

In 1992 Yorkshire Kit Cars ‘YKC’ took over manufacture of the Roadster and Berlinetta 2+2, two of the industry’s best known kit cars, from the original Marlin Engineering company in Plymouth. Both these cars were impeccably engineered and already well established, consistent sellers. But YKC didnt stop there. They continued to develop and improve these Paul Moorhouse designs, and, combining their own ideas and build experience with feedback from existing owners, they have incorporated many changes and improvements to the cars.

The heart of the kit is the carefully designed and incredibly strong chassis which is constructed from heavy gauge box section steel. It is built in such a way that no open ends remain, this guarantees an air tight and thus corrosion free frame. The three dimensional structure of the chassis affords good side impact resistance and the strong windscreen frame provides proven roll over protection.

Bulkheads, floor pans and transmission tunnel sides and tops are made from galvanised steel. The bonnet, engine compartment sides, inner wings and doors are aluminium and the remainder of the panels and wings are moulded with a generous thickness of GRP.

As stated above this particular car was built from a 1983 Ford Sierra, utilising the 1.8 pinto engine with a twin choke weber down draught Carburettor, The five speed Ford gearbox and independent rear suspension set up with adjustable coil over AVO shocks front and back. Having not driven one before i was extremely impressed with the cars road manners, performance and handling, in fact if the British weather was more reliable I would be happy to use this car as every day transport.

The chassis is 100% solid front to back. The fiberglass body is very good and the paint has a nice shine. The interior has a nice classic feel with leather bucket sets and a full set of smiths chrome gauges. The engine bay and underneath of the car are spotless with no oil leaks.

Included in the sale is full wet weather gear, a huge history file including the build manual, receipts for a full engine overhaul prior to the build, all the old mot’s to warrant the mileage, original sales literature and prices etc and details of all the owners since the build.

Altogether this YKC is a fantastic opportunity to purchase an ultra reliable, easy to drive and maintain kit car. Any trial or inspection is welcome or if you have any further questions please feel free to get in touch via e-mail or phone.
